Men in the Sun is the story of the lost legitimate scream of the Palestinians' voice that was lost long in the refugee camps, and dies inside a tanker driven by a castrated man who was already defeated once before: "Why didn't they knock on the walls of the tank?"

The Originals: On The Origin Of Species - Om Books
Man selects only for his own good: Nature only for that of the being which she tends. On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, a path-breaking scientific work by British naturalist Charles Darwin was first published in 1859. This book laid the foundations for modern evolutionary biology. In it, Darwin asserts that plant and animal life evolved from earlier forms through a process called natural selection. As a naturalist aboard the H.M.S. Beagle (1831–1836) Darwin conducted his observation and research in the Galápagos Islands, off the coast of South America. He recorded data on various species found there and these observations helped him formulate his theory about the mystery of the origin of species. The Theory of Evolution broke new ground by explaining the origin of species through descent from common ancestors, not by a divine power. On the Origin of Species covers a wide range of subjects, including the principles of mutation, variation, natural selection, evolution, amongst others. This seminal work has influenced many disciplines of study such as anthropology, the Classics, and religious studies.

Charles robert Darwin (1809–1882) was a British naturalist and biologist. He is well-known for his theory of evolution and his understanding of the process of natural selection. In 1859, he published his path-breaking book, On the Origin of Species. Darwin was born in the town of Shrewsbury, England. His father, Dr. R.W. Darwin, was a medical doctor, and his grandfather, Dr. Erasmus Darwin, was a botanist. His mother, Susanna, died when he was eight years old. He was educated at the University of Edinburgh and Christ’s College in Cambridge. His father hoped he would become a medical doctor or a parson, but he preferred to study Natural History. At Christ’s College, botany professor John Stevens Henslow became young Darwin’s mentor. Professor Henslow recommended him for a naturalist’s position aboard the HMS Beagle, which was slated to take a five-year survey trip around the world. On 27 December 1831, the HMS Beagle set out with Darwin aboard. During this voyage, Darwin collected a variety of natural specimens. His observations led him to formulate the seminal theory of evolution.

The Originals: The Prince - Om Books
"Everyone sees what you appear to be, few experience what you really are. Niccolò Machiavelli wrote The Prince—a book on the ruthless acquisition of power and governance of the State—with the intention of appeasing Lorenzo de’ Medici, the ruler of Florence, in the hope of resuscitating his political career. Often referred to as Machiavelli’s ‘job application’ in disguise, The Prince foregrounded the contrasting aspects of virtue and vice: virtue is not always an admirable trait and vice is not always detrimental to society. He presented an ‘unsentimental’ analysis of human behaviour and justified acts of immorality, deceit and deviousness to control a State. Written in 1513, shortly after Machiavelli was exiled from Florence, The Prince was posthumously published in 1532. Prohibited by the Court of Rome, The Prince was also banned by the Catholic Church. By early 1600s, William Shakespeare used ‘Machiavel’ as a term to describe an unscrupulous, devious and scheming person in his works. Even today, ‘Machiavellian’ means everything evil."

Born on 3 May 1469 in Florence, Niccolò di Bernardo dei Machiavelli was a historian, diplomat, politician, philosopher, humanist, and writer. Regarded as the founder of modern political science, Machiavelli lived in the turbulent times of power struggles among European states and the Holy Roman Empire.
The young Machiavelli became a diplomat after the temporary fall of Florence’s ruling Medici family in 1494. From 1498 to 1512, he served as secretary to the Second Chancery of the Republic of Florence. Between 1503 and 1506, Machiavelli was responsible for the Florentine militia. In 1509, under his tutelage, Florentine citizen soldiers defeated Pisa. After his plans to organise a Florentine militia against the return of the Medici family to power in 1512 were unearthed, Machiavelli was banished from politics and thrown into prison. It was during this time that he earned the reputation for being shrewd and ruthless. In fact, the term ‘Machiavellian’ is often associated with deviousness and political deceit.
After the death of Pope Julius II in 1513, the son of Lorenzo de’ Medici became Pope Leo X. Machiavelli hoped that by dedicating his most renowned work— The Prince—to Lorenzo de’ Medici, he would obtain an office that would help him return to public life. Alas, that was not to be.
Machiavelli’s other seminal works include On the Art of War (1521), ‘The Mandrake’ (1524) and Discourses on Livy which was published posthumously in 1531. He also wrote carnival songs, comedies and poetry.
Following a period of illness, Machiavelli died on 21 June 1527, aged 58.

The Originals: The Three Musketeers - Om Books
"The merit of all things lies in their difficulty. The Three Musketeers originally published in French as Les Trois Mousquetaires (1844) is one of the most famous works by Alexandre Dumas. Set in the 1620s, the story follows the adventures of the youthfully ambitious d’Artagnan as he seeks a place in the prestigious Musketeers of the Guard. However, d’Artagnan loses an important letter of introduction due to a series of misfortunes, and is unable to join the Guard immediately. However, he ends up befriending Athos, Porthos and Aramis, the three valiant musketeers who exemplify loyalty and devotion in friendship, and live by the motto, “all for one and one for all”. What follows is a brilliant tale of political intrigue, espionage, duels, murders, romance and friendship. The success of the novel led to two sequels—Twenty Years After (1845) and The Vicomte of Bragelonne: Ten Years Later (1850). The Three Musketeers has also been adapted into film, television, stage as well as other art forms."

The Originals: The Brothers Karamazov - Om Books
"Fyodor Dostoevsky’s final work, The Brothers Karamazov, is arguably one of the best novels ever written in any language. Set in 19th-century Russia, the novel was published as a serial in The Russian Messenger from January 1879 to November 1880. The story revolves around the murder of Fyodor Pavlovitch Karamazov—the father of the Karamazov brothers—a debauched man who leads a hedonistic life and excels in the art of seducing women.A spiritual drama of sorts, the story of Fyodor and his three sons from different wives, embodies Dostoevsky’s philosophy and delves into debates on morality, free will and God. Dostoevsky’s hero Alyosha was named after his own son who died of epilepsy at the age of three in 1878.The qualities that Dostoevsky admired in his son are reflected in the eponymous character, created and developed as a cathartic process. Dostoevsky died less than four months after the publication of The Brothers Karamazov. Constance Garnett’s English translation of the novel was released in 1912. It is believed that a copy of The Brothers Karamazov was found next to Leo Tolstoy’s nightstand when he died."

Fyodor Dostoevsky, one of the finest psychologists in world literature, was born in Moscow in 1821. Introduced to literature from the age of three, he was very close to his parents and ‘nanny’. His literary upbringing was influenced by Alena Frolovna, his nanny, who would read to him fairy tales, heroic sagas, and legends. As a student too, he was drawn to Romantic
and Gothic fiction, especially the works of Sir Walter Scott, Nikolay Karamzin, Ann Radcliffe, Alexander Pushkin, and Friedrich Schiller among others. Unlike his contemporary writers, Dostoevsky was not born into the landed gentry. Therefore, his literary works foregrounded the lives of “accidental families” and of “the insulted and the humiliated”. His stories explored human psychology in the turbulent socio-political atmosphere of 19th-century Russia.
His first novel, Poor Folk, was published in 1846 when he was 25.This gained him entry into St. Petersburg’s literary circles. In 1849, he was arrested for being part of a literary group that discussed ‘banned’ books of Tsarist Russia. His most acclaimed works include Crime and Punishment (1866), The Idiot (1869), Demons (1872) and The Brothers Karamazov (1880). Notes from Underground (1864), his novella, is considered one of the earliest works of existentialist literature.

The Interpretation Of Dreams - Om Books
"The Interpretation of Dreams (1899) originally published in German as Die Traumdeutung is considered Sigmund Freud’s masterpiece. According to Freud, dreams are manifestations of repressed desires, and have an underlying meaning. He suggests methods of interpreting dreams ̶ ‘imaginary wish fulfillments’ ̶ by exploring the process of dream formation in the absence of censorship, the role of the unconscious in this process, the distortions of subconscious desires in their transpositions in dreams, and more, through several case studies and his own dreams. He, thus, proposes the radical idea that the unconscious can be understood through an analysis of dreams. In this seminal work, Freud also introduces the concept of ‘Oedipus Complex’, which was to become one of Freud’s most controversial ideas. The Interpretation of Dreams was reprinted seven times during Freud’s lifetime, and has been the subject of much debate and speculation ever since."

SIGMUND FREUD, born on 6 May 1856, Freiberg, Moravia, Austrian Empire, was a famous Austrian neurologist and arguably one of the most significant contributors to the field of Psychology. He was the founder of Psychoanalysis, a theory that influenced fields beyond Psychology and dominated the 20th century consciousness.
Through Psychoanalysis, Freud introduced groundbreaking therapeutic techniques such as free association and transference, and introduced revolutionary concepts such as the theory of the unconscious and Oedipus complex, which remains one of Freud's most controversial ideas. His major works include Studies on Hysteria (1895), The Interpretation of Dreams (1899), and Three Essays on the Theory of Sexuality (1905).
After the Nazi invasion of Austria, Freud had to flee to England. However, his ideas and theories remained prevalent despite being challenged often throughout the 20th century. Freud died on 23 September 1939, aged 83.

Animal Farm  - Om Books
They explained that by their studies of the past three months the pigs had succeeded in reducing the principles of Animalism to seven commandments. These seven commandments would now be inscribed on the wall, they would form an unalterable law by which all the animals on Animal Farm must live for ever after. With some difficulty (for it is not easy for a pig to balance himself on a ladder) Snowball climbed up and set to work, with Squealer a few rungs below him holding the paint-pot. The commandments were written on the tarred wall in great white letters that could be read thirty yards away. These were followed till the day it was understood that: "All animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others..."
